Bosch Projects, a member of the multi-disciplinary Bosch Holdings group of companies, founded in 1961, has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer. This position will be based in Cape Town and reports directly to the Regional Director.  This position will assist in increasing the Building Services work the region undertakes and be involved in other industrial-type projects handled by the regional office. Typical projects include multi-disciplinary engineering and project management in the Building Services sector.

KEY  RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Advise about, design, install and maintain cost-effective and energy efficient systems for building services such as water, lighting, heating, air conditioning, lifts, and telecoms.
  • Producing, maintaining and taking responsibility for all mechanical engineering deliverables required in the contract such as equipment specifications, general equipment arrangement drawings, piping drawings, input to PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, equipment lists, tender enquiry documents, tender comparisons and commissioning documentation;
  • Managing the preparation of relevant proposals, negotiation, and marketing processes;
  • Lead and co-ordinate a multi-disciplinary engineering project teams on varying appointments within the Building Services sectors;
  • Provide technical and management and/or involvement throughout the project life-cycle, from inception, through feasibility into construction and commissioning;
  • Fulfil a lead engineering role on multi-faceted Building Services projects, where in instances, this could be performing such tasks whilst being on-site based;
  • Manage and maintain Client relationships and co-ordinate project execution within scope, time, safety  and cost requirements to the Client’s satisfaction;
  • Effectively manage sub-contractors as well as site staff;
  • Participation in engineering activities and interdisciplinary interfaces in close cooperation with the other discipline engineers;
  • Ensuring that all the projects are undertaken in accordance with the Quality Management System.

The ideal candidate should: 

  • Have a BSc. Eng (Mechanical) / B.Eng (Mechanical) / BTech (Mechanical) qualification;
  • Be registered or in a position to register as a Professional Engineer or Technologist with ECSA;
  • Have a minimum of 8-10 years appropriate post qualification experience in the consulting engineering sector;
  • Possess a detailed understanding of engineering activities required for consulting, engineering services, EPCM and EPC contracts;
  • Possess a broad understanding of, and have interacted with other design engineering disciplines, i.e., Process, Civil / Structural, Instrumentation, and Electrical;
  • Have strong leadership and management skills in managing project teams;
  • Be competent in managing all commercial and financial aspects of projects, including terms of appointment, fees and invoicing/forecasting, project profitability, and debtor control;
  • Be experienced in the compilation and submission of tenders and proposals for procuring consulting engineering work;
  • Be skilled in networking with potential clients / business partners and to secure work;
  • Have personal attributes aligned with the Bosch Way (Values and Culture);
  • Be prepared to travel within and outside RSA borders;
  • Be capable of functioning independently and as part of a project team.
