Project Scope:

Bosch Projects were commissioned by Illovo Sugar Limited to complete a Front End Package (FEP) to provide a capital estimate of 85% accuracy for the expansion of their Ubombo Sugar Factory situated in Big Bend, Swaziland. This FEP included a Factory expansion from 410 to 500 TCH in conjunction with increased cogeneration and off-crop refinery capacity. This assignment was successfully completed in May 2009 and in September 2009, Bosch Projects were appointed by the Client, Ubombo Sugar, Swaziland, as the EPCM Consultant for the execution of the Project.   Overall project value is ZAR1.5 billion (US$ 202 million) and was completed in April 2011.   The project scope involved the upgrade of existing processing equipment, combined with the procurement and installation of a substantial amount of new major plant such as a 32 Bar(a) -105 t/hr steam boiler (upgradeable to 45 Bar), a 25 MW Extraction / Condensing Turbo Alternator and a new Bosch Projects Chainless cane diffuser. The Project also allowed the Client to export electrical power into the SEC electrical network.   The refinery modifications facilitated operations over 12 off-crop weeks at 20 tons Refined Sugar Output per hour (RSO) and will produce approximately 38 000 tons of refined sugar during this period.

Large and complex expansion project with factory upgrades taking place over two off-crop periods. No disruption to current factory operations during the season allowed.   High standards of engineering, project management and cost control required by the Client.
