Bosch Projects – Structural Engineer – Gauteng

Bosch Projects (Pty) Ltd, a member of the multi-disciplinary Bosch Holdings group of companies, founded in 1961 has a permanent job opportunity for a Structural Engineer. The position will be based in Centurion and will be reporting directly to the Regional Director.

Key performance areas:

1. Project engineering & management

  • Manage entire projects and project teams, providing technical oversight throughout the project life cycle, from inception, through feasibility into construction and commissioning.
  • Produce, maintain and take responsibility for engineering deliverables within a multi-disciplinary project environment, including planning studies, schedules of quantities, tender and contract documents, contract administration and construction monitoring.
  • Ensure that all projects are undertaken in accordance with the Bosch Projects ISO 9001/2015 QMS System and the required technical standards.
  • Implement on-site verification, quality control and assurance during fabrication and construction.
  • Conduct condition assessments, structural investigations and remedial design of existing structures.
  • Perform Structural analysis using industry-standard software, supported by hand checks.

 2. Technical Design

  • Produce, maintain and take responsibility for engineering design deliverables including concept / preliminary design and detailed design, specifications of:
  • Concrete, steel and masonry structures.
  • Concrete foundations required for concrete or steel industrial structures including Consideration of static, dynamic and vibration loading.
  • Concrete water-retaining structures, including reinforcement.
  • Develop drawings and coordinate the drawing process, from concept and mark-ups to final review.
  • Effectively interface with discipline engineers, design draughts people and other stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.

3. Client & stakeholder engagement

  • Effectively interface with project managers, other discipline engineers, draughts people and other stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring that client standards are achieved and maintained.

4. Cost control

  • Perform engineering functions (including project, contract and construction management) efficiently within allocated manhour budgets.
  • Meet or exceed time booked to reimbursable projects.
  • Manage project team(s) to perform efficiently within manhour budgets set by the Project Manager.
  • Effective resources planning and reporting to achieve budgeted manhours and costs.

 5. Business development

  • Assist with work acquisition and tendering for industrial and developments projects.

Key Requirements: 

Qualifications and experience:

  • A BEng / BSc. qualification in Civil / Structural Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years’ structural Engineering experience.
  • Professional Registration with ECSA (Pr Eng).
  • Relevant Engineering consulting industry experience.
  • Relevant Industrial / Developments industry experience.
  • Exposure to other disciplines such as Water / Sanitation / Roads projects (advantageous).
  • Exposure to the Mining industry (advantageous).

Knowledge and technical skills:

  • Good MS Office skills.
  • Solid proficiency in structural modelling & analysis using software (Prokon, AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Good English language skills (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills
