Project Scope: The client needed to evaluate the viability of refurbishing an existing mill or designing a new mill in the Dominican Republic to produce organic sugar. Bosch Projects’ proposal was to provide engineering services to design a new organic sugar mill or to refurbish an existing one. The engineering services required were evaluating an existing sugar mill and turn it into an organic sugar factory. As part of the study, technology to process organic and produce organic sugar was presented. Evaluation of the existing sugar mill took place during the initial site visit, with the intention being to off crop early in the process or whether to rehabilitate the existing factory or design a new one. Following from the site visit from our Brazilian representative, it is was more cost effective to design a new sugar mill due to the poor condition of the existing mill. Two weeks after contract award, Bosch Projects mobilised a team of Engineers to the CAEI Sugar Factory for a period of 10 days to undertake 3D laser scanning of the existing factory and prepare a base case EMB aligned with previous factory performance and for a new greenfield factory. A cost estimate was prepared as well to an ANSI standard class 3 level.
