Project Scope: Bosch East Africa were appointed the consultants for the Chiromo Lane Medical Centre (CLMC) in Kenya, which has recently been completed. The team was responsible for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services, as well as construction supervision. This new greenfield mental health and rehabilitation facility represents CLMC’s progress in providing world-class care and treatment for psychiatric disorders in East Africa. The highly-experienced Bosch East Africa team - with a thorough understanding of electrical, mechanical and structural consulting engineering – has successfully incorporated specific design and functional requirements of this medical centre, to ensure efficient energy consumption, optimum patient comfort, high security and enhanced aesthetics. An important feature of this new medical centre is immaculate attention to detail of the patios and gazebos in tranquil garden areas, where patients and visitors can meet. Other facilities include a pharmacy and restaurant, a gymnasium and creche, two floors of medical consultant and staff offices, three floors of regular and VIP patient rooms, as well as rooftop boardrooms and the chairman’s office. The building is supplied with electric power from the grid, as well as solar-powered hot water panels and a low-noise back-up generator for automated changeover. The generator is able to provide back-up power to the building for a continuous period of up to 24-hours. A voltage stabiliser has also been installed to protect the electrical infrastructure. Other features include air-conditioning for certain areas, including the boardroom, pharmacy and selected offices and a CCTV security system and access control for patient areas. Added to this is a nurse call system in the wards and automated lighting in washrooms, which is controlled by occupancy detectors.
