Periodic Maintenance on the TR22 Section 2 from Ceres to Touwsrivier

Project Scope:

This section of TR22-2 (known as the R46) measures 71km from Ceres eastwards to the N1 at Touwsrivier.

The project requires the repair, pre-treatment and resurfacing of the single carriageway road to protect the underlying pavement for an additional 10 years of expected life. Also included is the reinstatement of the gravel shoulders plus the upgrade of the first 2.5km in the recently planned urban area to urban standards.

Features:

Major elements of the contract include:
  • Clearing side drains and culverts, reconstruct culvert headwalls
  • Demolish and replace decks of two major culverts
  • Rehabilitate and upgrade first 2.5km to urban cross section to accommodate new adjacent housing developments, including sidewalks and lighting
  • Base and surface patching
  • Repair edge breaks and re-gravel shoulders and lay-byes
  • Slurry texturing to areas with ravelled surface
  • Resurface 475 000m2 of roadway with a single or double seal as appropriate, using crumbed rubber modified bitumen and aggregate
  • Asphalt overlays to major intersections
  • Re-align guardrails, line marking and roadstuds
