Project Scope:

In March 2000 Bosch Projects was awarded the engineering and construction management contract for a 40,000-ton raw sugar warehouse at the Komati sugar mill. The main construction contract was awarded in May 2000, earthworks started in June, and mechanical site establishment began in July 2000. This resulted in a very tight installation schedule, but it was successfully completed and commissioned on time and within budget.

In October 2021, the sugar warehouse, conveyors and gantries at the Komati sugar mill were destroyed in a catastrophic fire. Bosch Projects was re-appointed to provide the engineering services to rebuild the sugar warehouse.

The project involved the design and integration of over 1200m2 of concrete rehabilitation, over five hundred tonnes of structural steel and new concrete works, six belt conveyors, a threefold increase in installed instruments, fully compliant electrical infrastructure and reinstated civil elements.

Although it appears to be a rebuild project, it involved meeting new standards, implementing design enhancements and engaging with diverse stakeholders such as local authorities and insurers.
